Inflammatory Breast Cancer Treatments

Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) Symptoms and diagnosis

Inflammatory breast cancer, or IBC, is an accelerated rate breast cancer, which usually can not be detected by ultrasound or mammography. It is a relatively rare form of cancer, which represents about 1 percent to 3 percent of all cancers of the breast. One sign of this type of breast cancer is that the affected breast becomes inflamed and swollen. This happens because the lymphatic cells that exist under the breast skin are blocked by cancer cells. This results in obstruction of lymph flow, leading to inflammation, redness, also known as mastitis, which characterizes IBC.

Symptoms of inflammatory breast cancer are:

  • chest pain. Since the IBC is confused often with a breast infection is treated with antibiotics. Therefore, if the swelling does not go away after a week, you need to get either one of referral to a breast cancer specialist or request a breast biopsy.

  • Becoming the red breast. distinctive feature Inflammatory breast cancer is redness, which can include all or part of the breast. Sometimes the redness can come and go.

  • The heat of the breast. The redness may also be accompanied by the hot zone.

  • The changes of the skin in the chest area. Redness of the breast, often also accompanied by getting skin thickness and texture of an orange peel, also known as orange peel.

  • A bruise on the chest is not going away.

  • Nipple retraction or discharge the same.

  • Feeling itching of the breast.

  • The breast suddenly swelled.

  • Lymph nodes in the neck or below the swelling arm upward.

  • About 50 percent of affected women with IBC will also have a mass or lump in your breast, but usually not can be detected during a breast exam because the breast often becomes more and larger than normal.

These symptoms usually occur very quickly, within a few weeks.

The diagnosis of inflammatory breast cancer

As explained, the nature of symptoms IBC makes it very difficult to diagnose accurately. Because of the rarity of the disease, many medical professionals in general, do not come across it. In addition, compared with other forms of breast cancer, inflammatory breast cancer has not been studied much more. Usually, when the breast is swollen or red, an infection is a common cause, so that doctors diagnosed as such at first. However, infections usually have a cause, such as breastfeeding, and disappear appropriate antibiotic treatment, however, the IBC does not respond to antibiotics.

Inflammatory breast cancer is diagnosed primarily by conducting a physical examination, although ultrasound, breast MRI or mammogram can also be used at times. A biopsy is usually used to confirm the diagnosis. However, there are cases where a biopsy of the CIB becomes clear, despite the swelling and redness worse. Therefore, as Obviously, it can be very difficult to get a confirmed diagnosis and accurately.

The Heart of a Woman: Preventing and Healing Heart Disease

The Heart of a Woman: Preventing and Healing Heart Disease

$5.57

This first-person account of one woman's experience chronicles her enduring a life-threatening heart attack (with no prior knowledge that she was even at risk for heart disease), her physical and emotional roller-coaster ride directly following the attack, her rehabilitation, her ongoing efforts to reverse heart disease, and, especially, her commitment to reclaiming her life and re-creating her self-image. It is a candid and intimate portrait, and a testament to the courage and faith necessary to successfully undertake a journey of healing, the magnitude of which inevitably results in self-transformation. This is the first book to recognize that heart disease is the most serious killer of women in the United States-- a fact of which women themselves are unaware-- and that it deserves the same degree of attention that breast cancer and men's heart disease receive. The Heart of a Woman will eliminate the myths most women harbor about heart disease-- myths that can kill if believed. While it is a book for all women, it will especially appeal to: women who have had heart disease or heart attacks, women with a history of heart disease in their families who may be unaware of their own genetic predisposition to heart disease, women seeking knowledge of preventive measures for themselves and their children, women who are unaware of the symptoms of a heart attack (different for women than for men).

Are you a breast cancer patient or survivor? need info...?

I need a lot of information. Can you tell me what are the first signs and symptoms of breast cancer? Does it occur in one or both breasts? How to check it or get it checked? What's the step-by-step procedure that doctors usually carry out (physical checkup, blood tests, xrays, or scans) to confirm it? What are the medicines usually prescribed? How long does it take for it to reach the last stage? Is getting it removed surgically a must in every stage, regardless of size of both the breast & the tumor? Should one consult an oncologist or a gynaecologist first? Please provide all necessary information.

I am currently a breast cancer patient but consider myself a survivor cuz I know they got it all when they removed my breast--I'm an optimist!!

I found my lump during a self-exam. I've received mammograms since I was 35 and now at 40--here comes the cancer! Figures, huh? LOL Gettin old sux!

You need to go to your gynecologist and get a breast exam. Then ask about a breast MRI--they are far more accurate than mammograms. Your gynecologist will determine whether or not you need to have any biopsies.

Surgery is not necessary all the time--depends on the type of breast cancer you are diagnosed with.
If you do have to have any tumors removed, you will be sent for a CT scan and a Mugga Scan for your heart to see if you are strong enough to withstand any additional treatments.
If chemo is required you will have a Mediport installed in your chest. This is where you will receive your chemo and anti-nausea medications. It sure beats having the chemo administered intravenously.
My tumor was the size of a golf ball, so yes, a mastectomy had to be performed. I was stage 2.
My tumor was not fed by hormones and my lymph nodes are clean so after the chemo and radiation I should be cancer free. Blood tests will determine this in the future.

If you have found a lump or have anything unusual happening up there--get to a doctor. Treatments really aren't that bad and science has come so far these days!

Good luck and God bless!
