Symptoms Of Breast Cancer Recurrence

Naturally, different types of breast cancers will have different causes, show different symptoms and will need different treatments than other Types Of Breast Cancer.

Symptoms Of Breast Cancer Recurrence

Breast cancer can either be invasive or non-invasive. Non-invasive breast cancers, also called in situ breast cancers, have a very high survival rate. Cancer cells in non-invasive breast cancers are confined to the site where the cancer originated, and have not spread to other organs. The most common non-invasive breast cancer is Ductal Carcinoma In Situ or DCIS, which develops in the breasts' milk ducts and does not metastasize. The best and easiest treatment for DCIS is mastectomy, and patients are cured fully, most of the times.

Invasive breast cancers are characterized by cancer spreading out to body parts other than the site in which the cancer originates. These cells usually enter the lymph vessels and blood vessels and travel to other body parts, where they develop malignant tumors. The two most common invasive Breast Cancer Types are Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, which is also the commonest breast cancer type, and, Invasive Lobular Carcinoma.

Lung Cancer Secrets Revealed Click here

Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, or IDC, originates in the breast ducts, breaking through the duct lining, spreads to the breast tissue and can metastasize further from there. IDC is the most common form of breast cancer, accounting for almost 70 to 80 out of every hundred cancer cases. Invasive Lobular Carcinoma starts developing in the lobules of the breast that produce milk, and then comes out of there and spreads to other parts. Instead of a lump formation, there is thickening of the breast, usually, when a person develops Invasive Lobular Carcinoma.

All forms of breast cancer do not originate in ducts or lobes. Breast tissues, fibrous connective tissues, blood vessels and lymph vessels can also be the originating site for breast cancer. It is also possible that the cancer does not start in the breast, but spreads to the breast from cancer cells of another cancer. However uncommon these types are, it's always good to be informed. Inflammatory breast cancer, Paget's disease of the breast, metaplastic breast cancer, angiosarcoma, osteosarcoma and adenoid cystic carcinoma are some uncommon types of breast cancer.

Inflammatory breast cancer is very aggressive, and can originate and start developing cancer cells so rapidly, that within a week, the cancer becomes very advanced and dangerous. This is the reason it is important to know everything about these rare types; you just do not know for sure if they can attack you.

Doctors usually grade invasive breast cancers. They compare the affected breast tissue with a normal tissue, and grade depending on how much the affected tissue resembles a normal one. This process makes it easier to decide the course and procedures for treatment. Grades start from I to III, Grade I implying the cancer is not very advanced, and Grade III suggesting that the breast tissue has lost its normal functioning ability and that the cancer has progressed highly.

As you can see, knowing about all types of cancers can help you recognizing symptoms early on and advise you on how to make your treatment more effective, along with giving you proper knowledge and information on your treatment.

An estimated two million Americans alive today have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Each one of them lives with the fear of recurrence, and for good reason: for at least a third of women diagnosed with breast cancer, the disease will eventually spread. When this happens most people assume it means an immediate death sentence. The reality is often different, as explained in Advanced Breast Cancer: A Guide to Living with Metastatic Disease. Newly updated and revised, this is the only book on breast cancer that deals honestly with the realities of metastatic disease, yet offers hope and comfort. All aspects of dealing with the disease are covered, including: Coping with the shock of recurrence Seeking information and making treatment decisions Communicating effectively with medical personnel Managing pain and symptoms of disease progression, as well as treatment of side effects Getting emotional support from other patients, friends, and family Finding new ways to discover meaning in the midst of adversity Frank and moving descriptions from those who have been touched by metastatic disease make their stories meaningful to anyone who faces a life-threatening illness, whether they are talking about making end-of- life decisions or keeping hope alive. Women with metastatic breast cancer generally go on to live with their disease, often for many years. Through facing the reality and gathering information and support, the time that they have can be full and meaningful. Of the dozens of books and other resources dealing with breast cancer, few discuss the realities of metastatic disease. Advanced Breast Cancer gives a voice to the side of breast cancerno one wants to hear about, with stories of extraordinary ordinary people, forced by circumstance to call on resources in themselves and their families they never knew they possessed. It remains the only book on the market to offer authoritative information and hope as it empowers those wh

what are the symptoms or breast cancer?

what are the symptoms or breast cancer and can girls at the age of 14 get it
please help
thank you

The chances of breast cancer at 14 are very close to zero.

It's almost unheard of in under 20s, and in fact fewer than 0.1% of all those diagnosed with it are under 30 and only 5% are under 40. Most (80%) are over 50.

When I was diagnosed with breast cancer I was classed as 'young'; I was 50.

The American Cancer Society and other cancer organisations recommend that women begin breast self examination at the age of 20. Before that it's pointless; firstly because there are so many hormonal changes that there is no 'normal' - and self examination is about a woman knowing what's normal for her and reporting any changes. And secondly because the chance of breast cancer is almost nil.

At your age your breasts are still growing and developing and any breast changes you notice, including lumps, are almost certainly hormonal and perfectly normal.

Early breast cancer has no symptoms; there is no need for you, at your age, to be concerned with the possible symptoms of breast cancer, but I'll tell you what they are because you can find them by googling anyway.

change in size; one breast may have become noticeably larger or lower

nipple change; if it becomes inverted (pulled in) or changes its position or shape

rash; on or around the nipple

discharge from one or both nipples

puckering or dimpling around nipple

swelling in your armpit or around your collarbone (from lymph nodes)

lump or thickening that feels different from the rest of the breast tissue - but remember that most breast lumps are not cancerous

constant pain in one part of your breast or in your armpit = but pain is rarely a sign of breast cancer..

Talk to your mother about any worries you have; if you're not comfortable doing that, talk to your school nurse; she will be used to girls having worries like this and will be able to reassure you that you don't have breast cancer

Cancer is an interesting short film that explains the signs and symptoms of cancer and its treatment. It features Mr. Bert Marshall, an average man who was diagnosed with stomach cancer. Aside from illustrations of the human anatomy and how cancer cells develop, the film also shows the disease is not only a physical burden but also an emotional weight by showing Mr. Marshall getting depressed and ...

Breast cancer became increasingly common in women of Western societies during the 20th century. Other than skin cancer, it is now the most common cancer for women in Western countries. This general guide to breast cancer for the non medical reader gives a positive and sympathetic account ofthe nature of breast cancer, its incidence, risk factors, symptoms and treatment. To understand the problems of breast cancer, it is important to first undertand somehting about cancers in general. Hence, this book gives a description of cancers in general before special reference is made to the specific aspects of breast cancer. The book provides background information about the structure and fuction of the breast, the causes of cancer in general and the factors associated with breaqst cancer in particular. It goes on to examine in detail the treatment of breast cancer and its management. The final part of the book summarises future direction for incidence, investigation and treatment of breast cancer based on current research, and likely future avenues of research.

Breast Cancer Treatment Abroad

WHAT IS BREAST CANCER?
Your body is made up of many types of cells. In normal course, cells grow, divide, and produce more cells to keep your body healthy. However, at times, this process may not function properly and cells may become abnormal, forming more cells, in an uncontrolled manner. These extra cells form a mass of tissue, called a growth or a ‘tumour'. Tumours can be benign, which means non cancerous, or malignant, which means cancerous. Breast cancer occurs when a malignant tumour forms in the tissue of your breast. According to the site of origin of these cancerous cells, breast cancer is classified into various types. The most common Types Of Breast Cancer originate in either the breast's milk ducts (ductal carcinoma) or lobules (lobular carcinoma). The point of origin is determined by the microscopic appearance of the cancer cells from a biopsy.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF BREAST CANCER?
The most common symptom is a lump in the breast. However, there can be other physical changes in the appearance of the breast. Some of these are :

Breast lump or breast mass – usually painless, firm to hard in consistency

Lump or mass in the armpit

A Change in the size or shape of the breast

Abnormal nipple discharge

Usually bloody or clear-to-yellow or green fluid

May look like pus (purulent)

Change in the colour or feel of the skin of your breast, nipple, or areola (area around the nipple)
Dimpled, puckered, or scaly

Retraction, "orange peel" appearance

Redness

Accentuated veins on breast surface

Change in appearance or sensation of the nipple

Pulled in (retraction), enlargement, or itching

Breast pain, enlargement, or discomfort on one side only

If you have any of the symptoms mentioned above, your doctor will ask for a detailed medical history and you will have to undergo a physical examination. You will also be recommended tests such as a mammogram or other imaging tests, like Ultrasound or MRI.

HOW IS BREAST CANCER DIAGNOSED?
An early diagnosis is the best way to cure breast cancer. By learning the technique of breast self examination and by undergoing periodic mammographies (a kind of X-ray technique for the breast) you can detect a tumour in its earliest stage.

Routine Mammography
A mammogram is an X-ray of your breast. It is a safe and painless procedure that is able to detect cancers at a very early stage. After 30 years of age, a woman should undergo a routine mammogram once in every five years. After 40 years of age, a woman should get this test done annually. If a woman has a family history of breast cancer, she should start going in for routine mamographies even before the age of 40.

Imaging Tests
These are some of the imaging tests. Your doctor will recommend one or more, depending on her diagnosis.

Mammogarm: As described above, it is an X-ray technique for detection of breast cancers. Some advanced techniques of mammography like optical mammography are more accurate and easier to perform.

Breast ultrasound: This imaging is also called a Sonogram. It will also tell whether the lump is fluid-filled cyst (generally non cancerous) or is a solid tissue (tumour).

Biopsy: A biopsy would be required to find out whether the tumour is benign or malignant. It will also help your doctor, identify the type of cancer cells. In biopsy, a sample of tissue will be taken from the breast lump. The process of tissue collection is a simple process and your doctor will use a needle for the same. The sample tissue will then be examined under a microscope to detect cancerous cells.

If the biopsy confirms the presence of cancerous cells, some other tests will have to be done to find the extent of the cancer spread and also to help your doctor determine the further course of treatment. Your doctor might ask to get one or all of the following tests done.

Chest X-ray: A chest X-ray will determine whether the breast cancer has spread to the lungs or not.

Bone scan: This test will be prescribed only if you have pain in the bones or if there are changes in the blood tests or if the disease is in an advanced stage. Bone scan will provide information about the spread of the cancer to the bones.

CT scan: Your doctor might ask you to get a CT scan of the abdomen or chest done to detect the spread of cancer to other organs.

Blood tests: A series of these tests will be done to detect the presence of cancer, its spread and also to determine the future course of its treatment. Some of the blood tests which your doctor might suggest are:

Complete blood count (CBC): Abnormal test results like anaemia, could suggest that the cancer has spread to the bone marrow. After chemotherapy, this test follows up the effect of the therapy on the blood-forming cells of the bone marrow.

Blood chemical and enzyme tests: These tests will only be prescribed by your doctor, if she suspects that cancer has spread to the bone or liver.

HOW IS BREAST CANCER TREATED?
Based on the reports and other findings, the doctor will assign a grade and a stage to the cancer. This classification will help her in selecting the right treatment option. She will select from the following course of treatments:

Surgery

It is the most common treatment for breast cancer. From the below mentioned two options, the doctor will choose one. Her choice will depend on the stage and grade of cancer.

Breast-conserving surgery (lumpectomy and radiotherapy)

Mastectomy (removal of the entire breast).

Lumpectomy will remove only the breast lump and a rim of normal surrounding breast tissue.

Mastectomy will remove the entire breast, including the nipple.

Radiation Therapy
This therapy will follow the breast surgery to kill any remaining cancerous cells in the breast, chest wall, or lymph nodes. It is usually given five days a week, for six to seven weeks. Radiation is used in most cases of breast conserving therapy. It is also used sometimes after mastectomy.

Chemotherapy
In this form of treatment, cancer-fighting drugs will be given, either intravenously (injected into a vein) or orally. The drugs will be given in cycles with intervals of two or three weeks in between. These cycles, generally last for a total time of three to six months, depending on the drugs used by your doctor.

Hormone therapy
This treatment will be only suggested by your doctor if the cancer is hormone positive. Also, your doctor might recommend it in the following situations:

As an add-on therapy with or without chemotherapy to kill any remaining breast cancer cells after surgery.

As the main therapy, if cancer is present even after the surgery or when cancer strikes back, months or years after surgery.

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF TREATMENT?
After surgery the skin in the breast area may be tight, and the muscles of the arm and shoulder may feel stiff. Your doctor, nurse, or physical therapist will recommend exercises to help regain movement and strength in the arm and shoulder. Radiation can cause changes in the appearance of the skin of the breast. Also there could be mild problems like dryness, pain and irritation. There will be certain side effects of chemotherapy like loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, mouth sores, hair loss, and changes in menstrual cycle. It can also affect the blood producing cells of the bone marrow. But most of these side effects will be temporary and are usually manageable.

WHAT IS RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY?
Your doctor may suggest a reconstructive surgery to replace skin, breast tissue, and the nipple removed during mastectomy. This surgery will be done by a plastic surgeon. The objective of this surgery is to rebuild the appearance of the breast. It can be done at the same time when mastectomy is done (immediate breast reconstruction) or at a later date (delayed reconstruction). To create an artificial breast, surgeons will use saline-filled implants or tissue from other parts of your body.

PAIN MANAGEMENT
The management of pain is an integral part of cancer therapy. Medications are the cornerstone of cancer pain treatment, and their use is aimed at providing the greatest pain relief possible with the fewest number of side effects and the most ease of administration. Your doctor will prescribe a medication that ensures maximum pain relief. Sometimes the doctor might recommend some interventional procedures like surgery and/or injections.

FOLLOW UP CARE
In cancer treatment, follow up care is an essential element of the overall treatment plan. Regular checkups will be advised to detect any changes in the health as early as possible.

CANCER CARE AT ARTEMIS
At Artemis Health Institute, state-of-the-art facilities are available for cancer diagnosis, treatment, follow up care and rehabilitation. These include advance imaging technologies such as a PET scan, DWIBS and 3TMRI for diagnosing cancer. The hospital is also equipped with state-of-the-art radiation therapy such as Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) and Brachytherapy.

Are you a breast cancer patient or survivor? need info...?

I need a lot of information. Can you tell me what are the first signs and symptoms of breast cancer? Does it occur in one or both breasts? How to check it or get it checked? What's the step-by-step procedure that doctors usually carry out (physical checkup, blood tests, xrays, or scans) to confirm it? What are the medicines usually prescribed? How long does it take for it to reach the last stage? Is getting it removed surgically a must in every stage, regardless of size of both the breast & the tumor? Should one consult an oncologist or a gynaecologist first? Please provide all necessary information.

I am currently a breast cancer patient but consider myself a survivor cuz I know they got it all when they removed my breast--I'm an optimist!!

I found my lump during a self-exam. I've received mammograms since I was 35 and now at 40--here comes the cancer! Figures, huh? LOL Gettin old sux!

You need to go to your gynecologist and get a breast exam. Then ask about a breast MRI--they are far more accurate than mammograms. Your gynecologist will determine whether or not you need to have any biopsies.

Surgery is not necessary all the time--depends on the type of breast cancer you are diagnosed with.
If you do have to have any tumors removed, you will be sent for a CT scan and a Mugga Scan for your heart to see if you are strong enough to withstand any additional treatments.
If chemo is required you will have a Mediport installed in your chest. This is where you will receive your chemo and anti-nausea medications. It sure beats having the chemo administered intravenously.
My tumor was the size of a golf ball, so yes, a mastectomy had to be performed. I was stage 2.
My tumor was not fed by hormones and my lymph nodes are clean so after the chemo and radiation I should be cancer free. Blood tests will determine this in the future.

If you have found a lump or have anything unusual happening up there--get to a doctor. Treatments really aren't that bad and science has come so far these days!

Good luck and God bless!

Wat r the symptoms of breast cancer?

Im 14 and im not sure if i have it or not cause my breasts pain mayb it cud b bcoz im growin.

Knowing the signs and symptoms of breast cancer may help save your life. When the disease is discovered early, you have more treatment options and a better chance for a cure.

Most breast lumps aren't cancerous. Yet the most common sign of breast cancer for both men and women is a lump or thickening in the breast. Often, the lump is painless. Other potential signs of breast cancer include:

    * A spontaneous clear or bloody discharge from your nipple, often associated with a breast lump
* Retraction or indentation of your nipple
* A change in the size or contours of your breast
* Any flattening or indentation of the skin over your breast
* Redness or pitting of the skin over your breast, like the skin of an orange

A number of conditions other than breast cancer can cause your breasts to change in size or feel. Breast tissue changes naturally during pregnancy and your menstrual cycle. Other possible causes of noncancerous (benign) breast changes include fibrocystic changes, cysts, fibroadenomas, infection or injury.

If you find a lump or other change in your breast — even if a recent mammogram was normal — see your doctor for evaluation. If you haven't yet gone through menopause, you may want to wait through one menstrual cycle before seeing your doctor. If the change hasn't gone away after a month, have it evaluated promptly.-

A native New Yorker and die-hard skeptic offers a personal look at the development of her medical intuition while serving as a trauma nurse in this riveting memoir. Twenty-five case studies with patients suffering from heart disease, breast cancer, prostate cancer, multiple sclerosis, adult onset diabetes, and other illnesses document the emotional and physiological causes behind patients' symptoms. The interaction of a person's energy system with health and illness is discussed in detail, as are the revelations that medical intuition offers about life, death, healing, and the existence of God. Instructive strategies for increased health and well-being offer ways to increase resistance to disease and reverse the progress of illness.

Liver cancer is a cancer arising from the liver or a cancer that has spread to the liver, having originated in other organs (such as the colon, stomach, pancreas, breast, and lung). Liver cancer is the fifth most common cancer in the world. Even when treatments fail to provide much improvement in the liver cancer itself, pain and other signs and symptoms caused by liver cancer can be aggressively treated to improve quality of life. Liver cancer is often deadly, but you can greatly reduce your risk by protecting yourself from hepatitis infection and cirrhosis, the leading causes of the disease. This book introduces the reader to the intriguing, high-tech world of cancer research and treatment, revealing the cutting-edge science that is being harnessed to fight these dread diseases. In addition, the book will show you how to avoid the cancer, what to do if you or a loved one has it, and what the latest treatments and avenues of new research are.
