There is no evidence that having implants breast increases a woman's risk of breast cancer. However, clinically proven to be more difficult to find early breast cancer in the breast implanted. Breast implants can interfere with mammography and that you can find an early breast cancer on mammograms more difficult ..... "The Breast implants can interfere with the detection of breast cancer, because the implants can obscure the mammography image of a tumor. Implants therefore have the potential to delay the diagnosis of breast cancer. Although mammography can be done in a way that minimizes the interference of the implants, more research Recent Miglioretti and colleagues said that even so 55% of breast tumors were detected, compared to 33% of the tumors of women without implants. No research evidence that implants cause breast cancer, or any delay in diagnosis caused by the implants significantly increased risk of death. "Http://www.breastimplantinfo.org/what_know/bi-mammo.html

Can anyone provide me links about government funding for breast cancer compared with prostate cancer?

I like to know the differences between the federal government funding (especially during the start of the two movements) to these charities. I sure that the breast cancer research funding has always been a much larger federal government, but I have curiosity as to whether or not the unequal funding for breast cancer research foundations (as opposed to the foundations of prostate cancer) is directly causing the cancer mass consciousness breast and general neglect of prostate cancer.

You should read the history of breast cancer awareness and try to understand the social ramifications that fed the priority for breast cancer research. . is evident that they are too young to remember the events that led to the "war cancer reported in 1971 'and the liberation movement of women during that time period.

Even a pharmacy. CVS were leads in the Mass and CVS is nationwide so I'm sure you will find there. New York is one of the largest commercial cities. Do not worry, you will find one. Good luck. and thanks for walking.

What would be an appropriate gesture of sympathy for someone in Taiwan?

A friend from Taiwan just lost her sister to breast cancer. She flew back to Taiwan to attend the funeral. When she called me today, I asked if it would be appropriate to send flowers and she said no. I also wondered if parents could send a sympathy card, but she said it would not be necessary since not read English. My friend is getting married in a couple of weeks after taking care of the affairs of his sister and stay for a while to comfort his parents. I would like to send her flowers on her return, if not "sympathetic" but more to say, "thinking of you." Or make a donation on behalf of her sister to breast cancer foundation? Any ideas on a suitable gesture is most appreciated. Thank you and God bless.

Make a donation. I have said many times that people have an excess of flowers after the death of a member family and often go to the hospital because they have no room for them. Giving up the flowers and make a donation. That's the best gift we can give, the money will go to a worthy cause.

Primary metathesized breast cancer to the liver?

02/03 Amigo stage breast cancer a year ago. Lumpectomy, radiation and chemotherapy was performed and seemed to be working. Amigo has been monthly for monthly cancer screening last year. A few weeks ago he noticed a lump in the abdomen, decreased appetite, indigestion experience and liver panels, where high. A liver biopsy was performed and the results returned before she was hospitalized for ascites, and dehydration. The next day was told she has cancer of the liver and found in the bones. My question is how fast they can grow tumors and why was that not reflected in the monthly assessment?

metastatic cancer can grow and spread quickly, depending on the initial cancer. (There are several different Types Of Breast Cancer). That's why having monthly review, because it develops from one month to the next. I know that my abdomen is palpated and blood are collected and analyzed in each routine checkup with my oncologist in my own breast, and urgent appointment was made available to th next day when I came across something suspicious between scheduled visits. I would be curious to here, where symptoms emerged in relation to their monthly checks? A week before? A week later? When?

The hormonal treatment of breast cancer - A history of breast cancer

Estrogen promotes the growth of approximately 2 of every 3 cancers Breast - those that contain estrogen receptors (ER-positive cancers) and / or progesterone receptors (PR-positive cancers). Because of this, several methods to block the effect of estrogen or lower estrogen levels are used to treat ER-positive and PR-positive breast cancers. The hormonal treatment of cancer Breast given to block the body's natural estrogen and fight cancer growth.

Click Here for a history of breast cancer Instant Access Now!

What are hormones? Hormones are substances produced by glands in the body circulating in the bloodstream. Some hormones can cause certain cancers to grow. The hormone estrogen, which causes some breast cancers grow, is done mainly by the ovaries. Treatment to stop the ovaries from producing estrogen is called ovarian ablation. Hormone therapy is another form of systemic therapy which is most often used as adjuvant therapy to help reduce the risk of cancer recurrence after surgery. Can be used as neoadjuvant therapy as well, and to treat cancer that has spread or recurred after treatment.

Tamoxifen is an antiestrogen drug that works by blocking temporarily estrogen receptors in breast cancer cells, preventing estrogen join them. They are taken daily in pill form and is often given to patients with early stage breast cancer and those with Metastatic Breast Cancer. The disadvantage of using tamoxifen, however, is that it can increase the likelihood of developing endometrial cancer. For this reason, women who take this medicine should have a pelvic exam every year to see signs of cancer.

Aromatase inhibitors, by contrast, work by blocking an enzyme (aromatase) that is responsible for making small amounts of estrogen in post-menopausal women. Hormone therapy with an aromatase inhibitor is given some post-menopausal women with breast cancer, hormone-dependent.

These are two examples of hormonal treatment for breast cancer.

Pushing forward - from prevention and detection to treatment and reconstruction, the latest data and technological advances bring more hope to stroke

Prevention and detection to treatment and reconstruction, the latest data and technological advances bring more hope to patients affected breast cancer.

Sometimes simple things make the biggest difference - even in the prevention of breast cancer.
However, recent data reinforce the importance of healthy lifestyles to reduce the risk of developing breast cancer, explains Edith A. Perez, MD, medical oncologist and director of Breast Center Mayo Clinic. Moreover, recent studies show that regular exercise and a healthy weight also reduces the risk of cancer recurrence.
"We have focus more on lifestyle issues, "says Dr. Perez." It must be part of our daily recommendations for patients. "
Although the chemical explanation of the connection to breast cancer prevention is still somewhat elusive, Dr. Perez says changes in insulin resistance and estrogen levels to physical activity and adequate caloric intake may affect the relationship.
"We continue for new drugs to lower risk, but this is something everyone can do, "he says.
And as studies investigating the effects of new drugs in advanced stages breast cancer, is only going to be a year or two until these drugs can be evaluated in the prevention studies, also, Dr. Perez says.

Diving in the detection
While mammography remains the standard for detection, magnetic resonance imaging of the breast are playing a role increasingly important in the discovery process, Dr. Perez says. In fact, it develops, patients with less than 15 to 20 percent increased risk of developing cancer breast should be examined for breast MRI rather than clinical evaluation and mammography. Although most beneficial for patients with a family history of cancer breast cancer, identified a genetic mutation that expose them to develop breast cancer, and women with dense breasts, Dr. Pérez strongly warns against using MRI as a screening tool for all patients.
"It's good to have the option of a sensitive test," she says, "but I do not want to go overboard. "
Beyond increased control, breast MRI is also useful when working with patients already diagnosed with cancer invasive breast cancer. Pristine visibility helps determine the best surgical procedure and, if mammography detects cancer in one breast, MRI can also bilateral detect a lesion in the other breast, and three percent of patients, Dr. Perez says the magnetic resonance of the cancer in both breasts.
But despite advances in screening and detection, Shahla Masood, MD, emphasizes the importance of a second opinion. Dr. Masood, Professor and Chairman, Department Pathology of the University of Florida College of Medicine - Director of Jackson, Chief of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Shands Jacksonville, University Library Extension of Florida, editor of The Breast Journal, and the president of the World Society for Breast Health, explains that, while a very small number of breast cancers are misdiagnosed, the many similarities in the pathology of breast can lead to under or over-diagnosis.
"Breast cancer is a heterogeneous disease with a variety of shapes and forms, "he says." The treatment, response to therapy ... all related to breast cancer. "
In addition, the evolution of technology, molecularlogy and sub-classifications of breast cancer lead to a better understanding of individual tumors, explains Dr. Masood, which affects the diagnosis and recommended treatment options.
Address the treatment
It's not just the prevention and detection have come a long way. Linda Sylvester, MD, medical oncologist with Oncology Associates Florida and co-founder of the Pink Ribbon Foundation, explained that the options personalized treatment, are also a positive effect on patient outcomes.

"We know that micro-environments in which the cancer can live crosstalk each other, "he says." We're learning what they turned on and off. "
While it is possible to inhibit the growth in one place, Dr. Silvestre explains that cancer cells find other ways to promote growth, emphasizing the need for personalized care for each patient based mutations in cancer cells in a sample of individual pathology.
Moreover, the nanoparticles and nanotechnology are proving effective to kill cancer cells while reducing the neurotoxicity becomes non-cancerous cells. Because nanoparticles are smaller than cancer cells, Dr. Sylvester says, lipophilic compounds in combination with chemotherapy drugs can enter cells and organs more easily. Entering the cancer cells, interfering with ribosomes and protein formation, enter the nucleus and interfere with DNA replication.
While Dr. Masood, is also optimistic about nanotechnology, adding that chemotherapy treatments are becoming molecular target therapies not only kill cancer but also cause fewer side effects.
"Each of these developments are making a difference in the way breast cancer is being seen these days" Dr. Masood says. "It makes a big difference in how well the patient can tolerate and can move on with your life."
Customization of care is key. While breast cancer can be treated in its early stages, Dr. Masood, he says, is essential to take into account the patient's tumor size, family history and unique needs and to properly treat the disease. "Breast cancer can be treated aggressively and leave the patient with a loss significant, while the same type of cancer can be treated in a balanced way that allows the patient to enjoy life, "he explains." We have treating the right patients, give them what they deserve. That has to be the focal point in the care of breast cancer. "
One of the first in the individualized approach patient care, Dr. Sylvester says, is Oncotype DX. It is used in patients who have estrogen-positive tumors Brea and disease of the lymph nodes negative Oncotype DX test compares the molecular arrangement of cancer cells from a patient in the sample of 21 genes known pathology to breast cancer risk, says. The results are then categorized patients at high risk, low or intermediate risk group based on the proportion of patient's disease mutations and mutations high risk.
Patients who fall in the chemotherapy group at high risk and need hormone therapy, while those in low-risk group can be treated with therapy, such as tamoxifen or an aromatase inhibitor. And if the results place a patient in the intermediate range, Dr. Silvestre, he says, may elect to participate in the clinical trial Sastre, a national oncology trial randomizes patients at intermediate risk to hormone therapy or chemotherapy plus hormonal therapy.
"Although all cancers can be cured, "Dr. Sylvester says," there is little hope with all new drugs in development and delivery systems to achieve these drugs in cancer cells. There is always something new survivors, always more. "

Ready for Reconstruction
Advances in reconstructive surgery are opening doors for women eager to regain the shape of their breasts after a mastectomy or excisions. The latter technique Oncoplastic combined oncological surgery to remove the tumor with reconstructive surgery to preserve the aesthetic result, says Laila Samii, MD, Associate Professor, Chief of Surgery of Breast Surgical Oncology Division, University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville.
During a lumpectomy Oncoplastic, Dr. Samii explained The surgeon moves the surrounding breast tissue to fill in this cavity after extrusion is eliminated. Oncoplastic surgery, which can also be used biopsies for benign, can match the shape of the breasts before surgery and contour. And, sensitive to women's self-image, Dr. Samii is trying to hide the scars by creating surgical incision in the crease under the breast or around the areola. Although still relatively new, Dr. Samii recognized technique is becoming increasingly popular.

Dr. Samii is particularly passionate about improving the cosmetic results of breast conservation. "If We are trying to save the breast, do not want to warp, "he said." If you are going to get worse, then you might as well have a mastectomy. "Without Oncoplastic surgery, she adds, women who have undergone resections can suffer severe deformities beast within a few years.
It also encourages surgeons to actively seek education and training on new techniques and skills that provide exemplary medical outcomes and improve cosmetic results. "We We all need to be sensitive to the desire of a woman acceptable cosmetic result, "he says." Patients are demanding better results, and surgeons have that have better patient satisfaction. "
Because Oncoplastic surgery plastic surgery includes operations for breast cancer eliminating the need for reconstructive implants or follow-up surgery. When it comes to breast conservation, Dr. Samii says, patients will not accept deformity or a cavity, it is crucial not only to save the breast, but to also save your form.
But that is not the only option for women wishing to maintain beat their breasts after cancer.
Although not all patients are candidates, skin-sparing mastectomy with reconstruction using implants save as much on the patient's skin as possible so that the plastic surgeon does not have to stretch the skin over the implant, Dr. Samii said. Is a complex procedure, since it is difficult to remove tissue from within a small incision, but the result is much better, she says.
"If the tumor is away from the skin and nipple "Dr. Samii says," is [the skin-sparing mastectomy] my number one mastectomy. "However, she acknowledges that the procedures must be carefully selected for each individual.
Another option: subcutaneous mastectomy, also known as nipple-sparing mastectomy. With a cut below the breast crease or the areola, the surgeon saves the skin, nipple and areola by removing tissue from a strategically placed incision.
But the skin and nipple-sparing mastectomy are not just for women already diagnosed with cancer, but are also options for patients with an extremely high risk of developing breast cancer, Dr. Samii said.

What Lies ahead
There is much more horizon. In the diagnosis in hand, Dr. Perez says that while mobile PET scans already are used in evaluation studies, clinical trials are investigating its use in general screening.

And in terms of treatment, the actions of Dr. Samii that partial breast radiation is under investigation, and the medical community should know more about safety and ethics in the coming years.
As Dr. Samii, Dr. Masood also is sympathetic to the breast cancer and mastectomies for their effect on a woman's self-esteem and identity, and she remains passionate about preserving the aspect breasts "while killing the cancer. Therefore, it is the hope that the long-term studies in Europe and the United States will continue demonstrating that treatment small tumors conservation therapy coincides with the result of treatment with mastectomy.

"It is a fundamental right of women to save their breasts, enjoying her breasts, "he says." They do not have to give up her breasts with breast cancer. "conservation therapy is to bring new light to how women should be treated, and in the future, Dr. Masood says, mastectomies and can not be used to treat small tumors.

As a strong advocate the patient and the world leader in the field of breast cancer, Dr. Masood also emphasizes the critical need for more breast care centers throughout the world, that the medical community in a multidisciplinary approach to treating breast cancer.

"Breast cancer remains a disease - there is no cause There is no cure - and will remain a public health threat to women worldwide, "says Dr. Masood. But through education, advocacy, interdisciplinary centers and technological advances, women have much reason to remain hopeful.
