Does chemo 'catch up?' And what about xeloda?

My mum had chemo last year due to Metastatic Breast Cancer. It worked really well and got rid of three of the four tumours on her lung. The remaining one had shrunk from 7mm to 5mm. The tumour in her spine had spread to three vertebrae instead of just the one. The doctors said that chemo takes longer to get to the bones and that it would get there and work on the cancer and that it should also keep working on the remaining tumour on her lung. From people's experiences is this true? Also, she is on xeloda now and the doctors keep telling her that people live for years and years on them. I take this as a good sign. Again, from peoples experiences, does xeloda work? She has ER+ PR- breast cancer.
I just have a to add another note here - my mum is such a wonderful strong woman. She had 10+ brain tumours that were found really early. She had radiation to her brain and we found out a couple of months ago that they had completely disappeared!! Isn't that great.

I don’t know what you mean by “catch up”, but yes everything the doctor told you is true. We have gotten much better at managing metastatic breast cancer and many women survive decades with metastatic disease. I’m glad she is responding so well, it is a very good sign!

The treatment of breast cancer: Conventional methods of treatment

Things get complicated when the cancer has spread beyond the ducts or lobes / lobules. Once your cancer has been staged, visit http://www.cancer.gov to determine their treatment options. Usually include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and / or hormone therapy. For IBC, treatment options are similar to other breast cancers, but always include chemotherapy, due to their aggressiveness.

or Surgery: Breast surgery can be a lumpectomy, where tumor is removed, or modified radical mastectomy or partial. With a lumpectomy, usually followed by radiation. In this way, you keep your chest and studies have shown no difference in survival rates between the lumpectomy / radiation and mastectomy.

Note: Not long ago, is used to radical mastectomies where the breast is cut, all the lymph nodes, and the underlying muscle away. Fortunately, medicine has discovered that it is not necessary. Now, a partial or modified radical mastectomy was performed in any part of the breast tissue or the whole breast, and possibly some of the lymph nodes, deleted. In general, a mastectomy is not as bad surgery, but each one is different. I found two mines to be easy, but you wake up with tubes drainage, which is normally at least a week.

or chemotherapy: Chemotherapy is defined by Wikipedia as "the use of chemicals treat the disease. In its modern usage, refers primarily to cytotoxic drugs used to treat cancer. "This can be a frightening possibility for any person. We've all heard horror stories about how chemotherapy can be debilitating. However, much progress has been made in the management of side effects chemotherapy, to the point that, once they have the right management tools, you can still enjoy the activities they usually do. Chemotherapy is a way to treat your cancer in a systemic and usually recommended for those whose tumor is larger than a certain size and / or cancer has spread to lymph nodes. The idea is that if the cancer has had the opportunity to access the rest of your body, your treatment should be systemic too.

or Radiation: Radiation therapy is usually a local treatment option, where rapidly dividing cells are damaged. Cancer cells are very Quick separators, so the radiation is an effective option. In general, radiotherapy is administered over six weeks, five days a week. It is very like to stay still for an x-ray, only instead of lasting a second or two, which lasts a couple of minutes. It can cause fatigue, towards the end and a little later and can cause a sunburn effect on your skin.

or hormone therapy: Many breast cancers are hormone-dependent. In these cancers, there are receptors in the tumor that can be filled with estrogen. The idea is that when estrogen is filled with these receptors, which makes the tumor grow. This is known as receptor-positive estrogen (ER). These cancers respond well to hormone therapy and hormone chemotherapy is recommended for you will depend on your menopausal status. These drugs are in pill form and taken once a day. The most popular of these drugs, pre-menopausal women, tamoxifen is and, for post-menopausal women Femara or Arimidex. There is new evidence that suggests that taking Femara after tamoxifen for five years, increases survival rates.

or immunotherapy: A fourth modality of treatment on the horizon and is called immunotherapy. It's about getting your immune system to fight your cancer and there, and will, a lot of research done in this area.

Melissa Buhmeyer is a breast cancer survivor and has been for seven years. She is also the founder of [http://www.breastcancer-treatment.us], a site that focuses on the treatment of breast cancer [http://www.breastcancer-treatment.us] options news, and experiences of survivors.

Example of Specialist: cardiologist anesthesiologist, ...

Depending on the extent of disease, treatment will result in meeting the different specialists. Diagnosis will lead to: radiologist, pathologist, surgeon, laboratory technology, general (or a breast surgeon.) Treatment: the radiation oncologist or medical general (Breast) surgeon. If that is all too much, the most important people that were involved in caring for yourself and see that most would be the surgeon or oncologist, depending on the type of treatment, and can often be combined surgery and drugs and radiation. These two people would consult with other specialists who may not actually meet. So if you meet someone for breast cancer diagnosis and treatment, meet with the surgeon and oncologist.

When the kidneys fail are never going to start?

My mother has breast cancer stomache began about nine years ago. September had ovarian surgery, abdominal and 5 chemo today have said they can not have anything else that she has lost 30 pounds three blood transfusions within 5 days his kidney and liver are closing. His Turner in his stomache seems to be 8 months pregnant. To send her home with nothing but pain medication, is there something we can do? Any food or drink may be able to handle .. She is in so much pain I just want her to be alert for at least long enough to talk to her ..

Well, it seems she isn't going to be much longer. So just make very comfortable and give her what she wants. remember that she is wanting to sleep much in his last days, because she is tired of fighting this losing battle. Depending on how long their kidneys have been people who do not functuning can never regain their renal function later, if I do not think it will improve at all. Do not do it talk to you. You talk to her soft, quiet and smooth. She will be grateful to have family around when it happens. I'm sorry for your loss.

But I wonder if there is a possibility that it is not.

This test can indicate the packages - and other evidence as the biopsy is performed to detect whether or not a malignancy.

Fruit Phytochemicals and help treat breast cancer

You're in luck if you like sinking your teeth into juicy delicious fruits, and if you know someone with breast cancer or is a breast cancer patient with yourself. Pomegranates and mangoes are considered as super fruits or fruits that are known for their exceptionally rich nutritional and antioxidant properties. New research suggests that substances found in pomegranates and mangoes can be natural alternatives to breast cancer medication and other treatment options. The wonderful thing about fruits and natural medicines is that they are delicious, no side effects as a result consumption, and include a variety of nutrients.

Grenades

pomegranate fruit contains phytochemicals, specifically Urolithin B, which act as aromatase inhibitors. Referring to the results of a study published in the January issue of Cancer Prevention Research, the researchers say they have found a natural substance in the shells that could prevent the development of breast cancer and hormone-dependent growth arrest of estrogen-sensitive tumors.

According to the website of the Mayo Clinic, drugs are full of AI-complete side effects like joint pain, muscle aches, flushing, headaches, bone fractures, fatigue, and even a risk of heart disease. Aromatase inhibitors are used by doctors to block estrogen synthesis in an attempt to subdue the growth of cancer tumors of estrogen-dependent breast cancer.

The research team for the above study found that natural phytochemicals found in pomegranates suppress the production of estrogen, which prevents the spread of cells breast cancer and the growth of estrogen-sensitive tumors. A particular substance, found in pomegranates - dubbed Urolithin B - significantly inhibited growing cultures of breast cancer cells in the laboratory.

Handles

What's in the long handles that communities can have medical science and singing his praises as adversaries worth of breast cancer? The answer is polyphenols, natural phytochemicals found in plants. Polyphenols are antioxidants with the potential to protect the body against disease.

Texas A & M University Cooperative Research Department, Laboratory experiments indicated that mango fruit prevent or stop the growth of breast cancer in some colon cell lines. The experiments also showed The extract of mango showed some skills in cancer tests of the prostate, leukemia and lung cancer cells. When tested in the most common breast and colon cancers, however, the compounds were found to mango even stronger cancer fighting abilities in evidence in other types of cancer cells.

In the experiments, the researchers documented that the cancer cell division process was interrupted by mango extract. In fact, the extract of mango caused the colon and breast cancer cells undergo apoptosis, or programmed cell death.

When husband and wife Suzanne and food scientist Dr. Steve Talcott out the experiments at Texas A & M, specific polyphenols evaluated for effectiveness. What they found was gallotannins that were the most active anticancer agents in the handles. Gallotannins are a class of natural polyphenolic compounds believed to help in preventing or stopping the growth of cancer cells.

All physicians and oncology nurses who know ... your help would be greatly appreciated!?

Ms. J. is receiving a chemotherapy regimen combination (FAC) of 5-fluoroucil, doxorubicin (adriamycin and cyclophosphamide (Cytoxan) for breast cancer. Why has been chosen this regime, And what can you expect? He says he has blood in his urine and you find that in fact red. What will their nursing actions? After week of initial treatment, you find that Mrs J has a respiratory rate of 28, a pulse of 102 and rattling noise in bilateral lung base. What going to do? Thanks a lot! For someone who said I was cheating ... definitely not. In fact, I already done this task. I am asking all of their answers because my friends and I have worked very hard on this and feel that were rated unfairly. However, we believe that the answers I chose were very obvious. I'm trying to see if any you say something different. We will meet as a group and talk to the teacher tomorrow. Please help:)

I'm not sure about "why this regime '- not my area, but for parts B and C: B. hemorrhagic cystitis is suspected of cytoxan. Let your MD know immediately, if possible push fluids, and be prepared to initiate aggressive IV hydration, and possibly give Mesna, if not much time has passed since the cytoxan .. Make a rod of blood to be sure. Could be simply faded from the adria. No need to panic around the world. C. Suspected or pneumonia (associated with neutropenia, although it might be early for a nadir) or adriamycin heart failure. Check the temperature, see O2 saturation, O2 launch if necessary, notify the MD and get antibiotics lasix and ready. Side notes: If it's a heart problem, you need a follow-up MUGA. And they really should be using anyway Doxil rather than only adria for this reason. Doxil is less cardiotoxic.
